Photo Scavenger Hunt with Anika, Number 5

Cold, wind, sand, bad batteries; sometimes things just don’t go well. Despite the non-spring weather, we decided to go to the beach (Durand Eastman) this week. I’m still not sure why that sounded like a good idea (it was around 40˚ with 20-30 mph winds), but we did it anyway. Anika was shooting with one of my DSLRs for the first time, and it turns out the back-up battery I put in it was bad, so she only got to shoot about 15 photographs. I got wrapped up in some ground-level photography and didn’t notice the sand-storm blowing into my new G12… not good.

All-in-all, it was far from our best outing, but we still managed to put together an edit. There’s always next time. (Anika chose the last three ‘items’ again this week – they’re the ones with the “*”)

Rochester NY Weddings – 10 of 10 from ’10 – 10!

The final installment of the series: 10 of my favorite photographs from 10 weddings, shot in 2010.

One^4, 17 April 2011 – Charlotte Marinas, Dry Dock

In one of my more brilliant moments, I showed up at this week’s One to the Fourth shoot with a near-dead camera battery and no back-up. I blame my first wedding of 2011 the previous day. Next week, checklists!

Despite only having 10 minutes of photographing, I managed to cobble together ten images. They’re certainly not my best work of this project, but given the circumstances, I’m OK with it.

Photo Scavenger Hunt with Anika, Number 4

We had so much fun at Black Creek Park on Saturday, we decided to photograph there this week. After the rain yesterday it was pretty muddy, but the weather was wonderful and there was plenty to shoot. Anika even helped out with the scavenger hunt list. The last three items were her ideas and are marked with an asterisk (*) in the caption. Enjoy!

Rochester NY Weddings – 10 of 10 from ’10 – 09

The penultimate episode! My favorite 10 photographs from 10 weddings, shot in 2010.

Rochester NY Weddings – 10 of 10 from ’10 – 08

Only two to go after this, and my self-imposed deadline is fast approaching. The 2011 wedding season starts this Saturday, so I’ll be posting the final two before Friday. Once again, here are 10 photographs from one of 10 weddings of 2010.

One^4, 10 April 2011 – Rochester, Main and Plymouth

I totally forgot to post these yesterday! (blog foul)

These shoots have definitely become a highlight of the week for me. It’s so nice to be outside and just shoot whatever I want.

Although, I’m seeing my social biases playing out in my work. I seem to be photographing a lot of garbage. And by garbage, I don’t mean that I’m not happy with the photographs, I mean “garbage,” as in trash, refuse, litter. I see it everywhere, and feel compelled to document it. So, I’ve started a fine-art/documentary series, and am thinking of calling it, simply: “waste.” I look at it as a commentary on the complete lack of respect humans, in general, have for nature. It’s certainly a huge personal issue for me, and it’s therapeutic to be giving it a voice. Hopefully the project becomes a bit more than just photographs of junk.
